Costs about $40 and takes 2 days from/to Kathmandu adding 4 days to the trek and saving over $300. Another option is to hike in from Dhap (on the road to Salleri) over Pikey Peak viewpoint, this takes also about 7 extra days.

Why go both up and down via Tengboche when there is a splendid high trail on the opposite side of the valley via Mong La – Phortse – Pangpoche? Takes the same 2 days Namche – Dingpoche on the way up as the normal Tengboche route, but offers vastly better views, lots of wildlife and practically no other trekkers. Only come down via Tengboche.
